Pre-War Excellence - Asashio-class were improved Shiratsuyu-class destroyers. 10 ships built 1937-1938. Six 5-inch guns in three twin turrets + eight 24-inch torpedoes. All 10 lost in combat 1942-1943 (100% loss rate). Set template for subsequent Kagero and Yugumo classes. Heavy Guadalcanal losses.
