Yubari (Experimental Light Cruiser)
Revolutionary Experimental Design - Yubari was Japan's experimental compact light cruiser. 1 ship commissioned July 1923. Designed by legendary naval architect Yuzuru Hiraga. Revolutionary concept: 5,500-ton firepower on 3,893-ton hull (compact design!). 6× 140mm guns, 4× 24-inch torpedoes, 35.5 knots - same armament as larger cruisers but 33% smaller/lighter! Innovative weight-saving techniques. Test-bed for design concepts - influenced ALL subsequent Japanese cruisers. Only 1 built (experimental). Fought entire WWII (21 years service). Lost April 27, 1944 (torpedoed by USS Bluegill off Palau). Legendary ship - Hiraga's masterpiece, changed Japanese naval architecture forever.
