Victorian Era Veterans - Suma-class were early Japanese protected cruisers. 2 ships commissioned 1896. British-built by Armstrong. Small (2,657 tons), coal-fired compound engines, 20 knots. Two 6-inch guns + six 4.7-inch. Protected cruiser design. Sino-Japanese War veterans (1894-1895). Russo-Japanese War service (1904-1905). Both scrapped 1928 after 32 years service - exceptional longevity. Represented Meiji-era naval modernization and expansion.
