Improved Type VIIA with larger hull (753 tons vs. VIIA 626 tons - 20% increase!). 5× 53.3cm torpedo tubes, 14 torpedoes carried (standardized), 17.2 knots surfaced/8.0 knots submerged. 8,700 nm range (40% improvement over VIIA 6,200 nm!), enhanced 3,200 HP diesels. 1× 8.8cm SK C/35 + 1× 2cm Flak. Enlarged saddle tanks (more fuel). Famous ace boats including U-99 (Kretschmer - top ace!). Led directly to Type VIIC (577-593 boats - THE workhorse!).
