Revolutionary size jump from treaty boats (933 tons → 3,165 tons!). 2,232 tons standard, 5× 12.7cm (127mm) guns, 8× 533mm torpedoes (2 quad), 38.4 knots (highest German speed). 70,000 SHP turbines (3× interwar power!), best range (4,400 nm). First ocean-going destroyers since WWI. Named after naval heroes (Leberecht Maass = German admiral). Stability problems (top-weight issues plagued class). WWII service (1939-1944): Norway campaign, Atlantic operations, English Channel. Heavy combat losses (Z1/Z3 lost 1940, others 1944). Nazi rearmament milestone.
