SMS Emden: Legendary Indian Ocean operations (Aug-Nov 1914), sank 15 Allied merchant ships + 2 warships (Russian cruiser Zhemchug, French destroyer Mousquet), Cocos Islands raid (9 Nov 1914), sunk by HMAS Sydney (9 Nov 1914, 134 killed, 227 survivors). SMS Dresden: East Asia Squadron, survived Coronel and Falklands, evaded British pursuit for 3 months, scuttled at Juan Fernández Island (14 Mar 1915, 5 killed, 315 interned).
